Description

“….It is the mental yoga, called Raja Yoga, that is best, for it leads to Enlightenment rather than to body attachment.”   Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadev

Atmic Testament on Yoga is the ten-year study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras taught by Babaji Bob Kindler to the students of SRV Associations and other interested persons from around the U.S.  Students utilized the book, Raja Yoga, by Swami Vivekananda, expressly intended to introduce Westerners in the 1890’s to Yoga Philosophy, including previously unheard-of concepts such as: prana (vital force of the body), psychic prana (mental force that moves our thoughts), subtle matter (tanmatras), samadhi (states of higher awareness), and the concept of evolution and involution in Indian cosmology – all of which are essential for understanding the true import of Yoga. Alongside the Raja Yoga study, Babaji prepared lessons drawn from the commentaries of the Father of Vedanta, Vedavyas, and other Indian commentators, as well as his own direct experience as a long-time Western practitioner of this universal philosophy, who studied under Indian swamis of the Ramakrishna Order.

The unique feature of Atmic Testament is the inclusion of the diverse questions and answers that begin each lesson. Students’ inquiries delve into yoga philosophy, as well as its application in practice and daily life.  It is thus a record of today’s Western Vedantists awakening to the true goal of Yoga, which is samadhi, manifesting progressively from sense control, equanimity of mind, purity and resilience of character, deep concentration, transcendence of body identification, to mastery and freedom from the limiting forces of nature that leads ultimately to complete spiritual emancipation (moksha).   Additionally, each sutra is transliterated, with a word for word translations, and a clear English translation.
